“Doula”

doula

Historically the Greek word “doula” means “woman’s servant,” or women helping women. In previous generations, women who had just given birth were surrounded by caring family members who had plenty of experience and wisdom to offer. This kind of help is seldom available to the new mother in today’s fast-paced society.

The Postpartum Doula’s mission is to revive that tradition, by her dedication to nurturing the new mother, providing emotional support and encouragement, answering questions, and lending a helping hand with necessary household tasks.

If the mother is well-cared for, the whole family benefits. Providing mothers with hands-on help during those first few hectic weeks with a new baby can help make the postpartum experience joyful and memorable.
